On Day 2, we took a bus to the Kushiro Marshlands, with the hope of seeing white cranes.
We took a bus again and reached the visitors centre at about 10-11am.
We were like little kids, excited to see so much snow, that we tried to trudge, fall, made snow footballs, and lots of other antics etc. it was fun!
We had to walk a distance from the visitors centre to the marshlands, especially as trudging in the snow took more time and effort. We also walked slowly to avoid slipping. (tip – travelers can buy the anti-slip pads to attach to your shoes for about 1,200Yen. Although I tried about 3 different shoe pads, they all slipped off some time or another. It became such a hassle to stop and pick up the shoe pads that I eventually gave up wearing them.)
One thing to note prior to your trip, remember to check the bus schedule to and fro the marshlands, and plan your time accordingly. Just as we were about to end our day adventure, we realized that the next bus would only reach in another 1-2 hours’ time, and we had to idle our time away in the cold. Grrrr…
